Assessment of the Level of Ferritin, Serum Iron, Blood Urea, Serum Creatinine, and Some Hematological Indicators in Patients with Hepatitis C Virus and Renal Failure

Background: Hepatitis C virus infections are widely spread among patients with kidney diseases like renal failure and chronic kidney disease CKD. This patient population can acquire HCV through the sharing of contaminated equipment and tools; therefore, HCV is a significant public health issue. Hepatitis C virus infection is associated with an increased risk and progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD), as well as increased death in CKD and renal transplant patients. Anemia is the most common hematological problem in the final stage of illness. Aim of the study: the current research was aimed to evaluation some of the Hematological Parameters,Biochemical Parameters in patients with hepatitis C virus and renal failure. Methods: Collect 100 samples from the hemodialysis unit in the Al Sader Hospital in the Najaf province / Iraq, from September to December 2025. The age group ranged from 20 to 79 years. The ELISA technique was used to detect anti-HCV antibodies, and all parameters were evaluated in the medical laboratory. Results: The results showed that HCV is more likely in patients with kidney failure compared with the control group. This group of patients showed an increase in hemoglobin levels (10.48 ±1.95), blood urea (167.87 ± 46.95), serum creatinine (10.63 ± 3.93), serum iron (147.09 ± 80.99), and serum ferritin (741.48 ± 296.24), while a decrease in white blood cell count (4.93 ± 1.15) and Platelets was observed (162.48 ±84.43). Conclusion: show Hepatitis C virus was spread widely among patients with kidney disease, and this may be due to the use of non-sterile devices and tools in hospitals. The results also showed increases in hemoglobin, blood urea, serum creatinine, serum iron, and serum ferritin, while white blood cell and platelet levels decreased in the patient group.
