Abstract

This study aims to analyze sustainable strategies for sports development in Iraq, focusing on their impact on youth and sports infrastructure and their role in achieving comprehensive development. A descriptive–analytical approach was adopted through an analysis of the current state of the sports sector, supported by official data and a field questionnaire administered to 300 participants, including youth, athletes, and decision-makers. The findings indicate that sport is an effective tool for enhancing physical and psychological health, strengthening social cohesion, and reducing youth-related issues such as unemployment and deviant behavior. However, the study also reveals major challenges hindering sports development in Iraq, most notably inadequate infrastructure, limited funding, and the absence of long-term strategic planning. The study concludes by emphasizing the necessity of adopting sustainable strategies that include developing sports facilities, strengthening partnerships with the private sector and international organizations, integrating sport into the educational system, and supporting youth-led initiatives, thereby contributing to sustainable and comprehensive development in Iraq.
