This experimental study investigated the protective effects of Ajwa seed extract on inducing atherosclerosis in male rats. Thirty rats were divided into five groups, including a negative control group and a positive control group fed a high-cholesterol diet (2%). The treatment groups received either atorvastatin (10 mg/kg), Ajwa seed extract (500 mg/kg), or a combination of Ajwa extract (250 mg/kg) with atorvastatin (5 mg/kg). Oxidative stress markers (GSH, MDA) were assessed. The results showed that the groups receiving the combination treatment and Ajwa extract had much better antioxidant levels and less oxidative stress than the group that only had cholesterol. The combination therapy showed the strongest protective effect, indicating that Ajwa seed extract could be a helpful natural treatment for high cholesterol and atherosclerosis.
