The position of the people of Khorasan province on the developments of events in Iran 1962-1979 AD, a documentary study

Abstract

The Islamic Revolution in Iran in 1979 and the events that followed it constituted one of the most important revolutions in contemporary history, not only on the regional level but also in the entire world. The Iranian province of Khorasan is one of the most important regions that witnessed a broad popular movement against the Pahlavi regime, as it includes the shrine of Imam Ali al-Rida, peace be upon him, in the city of Mashhad, in addition to being the birthplace of the leader of the Islamic Revolution, Sayyid Khomeini, in the city of Khomein. Mr. Khomeini, with his powerful speeches against the Pahlavi regime and its policies, was able to inspire and motivate most of the Iranian people to stand against the government without fear. The Iranian people’s struggle against the Pahlavi regime developed from secret and public meetings and the distribution of leaflets supporting Mr. Khomeini’s movement, to the stage of peaceful protests and sit-ins inside mosques, schools and universities. However, the most influential thing that had the greatest impact on the fall of the Shah was the protests and sit-ins of government employees and workers, as they confused the government administrative apparatus and caused it to lose control over the joints of the state and its institutions, in addition to the financial losses it incurred as a result of those sit-ins.
