Abstract

Recently, the police novel has been a source of inspiration for many novelists, as the police novel relies on three elements: the killer, the victim, and the investigator. These poles are considered the main elements in shaping the focus of the detective novel text. In general, this study dealt with the emergence of the police novel, and identified its historical roots, and then discussed the delay in its emergence among the Arabs by mentioning a number of reasons for many critics and novelists, and relied on clarifying the concepts of this modern literary genre. In this study, the researcher relied on the historical approach in revealing the history of the detective novel in world literature on the one hand, and on the other hand, Arabic literature.
