Abstract

Al-Manathira district is old and administratively formed, as its formation dates back to the Ottoman era. It was the seat of the Ottoman authorities and was called the (Abu Sakhir) district. After the British entered Iraq as occupiers, Al-Manathira district remained important, and the city of (Abu Sakhir) is considered one of the ancient cities known in its antiquity in history. And that the city was called by this name because of the presence of a rock or a rocky area in the middle of the Kufa River (Euphrates River) and near these rocks there is a village called Abu Sakhir, Umm Sakhir, or Sakhirat until the name was fixed on “Abu Sakhir” and it remained until the issuance of the Republican decree No. (511) on 9/11/1976, and the name of the district was replaced by the name of Al-Manathira district, in reference to the Arab king, Al-Mundhir bin Imre Al-Qais bin Maa Al-Sama .. It contains a cemetery dating back to the Persian and Islamic period ([i])
