The Chinese challenge in American strategic thinking
Abstract
The truth about strategic thinking comes from the fact that it represents an approach to achieving strategic excellence, through generating strategic ideas concerned with the continuous strategic development of all fundamental issues, as it represents the general framework in light of which the validity of goals and the extent of their consistency with the state’s philosophy is determined. The United States of America also has strategic thinking. It enabled it to emerge dominantly in the international system. It also took the form of continental expansion before World War I, and then the form of political and economic expansion and military proliferation since World War II. The idea of hegemony occupied the highest priority in American strategic
thinking and the focus of its strategic movement, so it became seen in any growth. Any country has a great challenge to its hegemony, and with change and international competition, China has become one of the main distinguishing features of the new international order. China has occupied an advanced position thanks to its rapid growth rates and strategic performance at the regional and international levels, with its political and military institutions, its high population density, and its great cultural and historical heritage. It has great importance in American strategic thinking, as well as its influence on the nature of international competition.
