Assessment of contributing risk factors for patients with prostate cancer in Capital of Baghdad

Abstract

Objectives: This study aims to assess the factors contributing to prostate cancer in the province of Baghdad, and determine the relationship between these factors and demographic characteristics of patients with prostate cancer.

Methodology: A descriptive study was adopted for the period of October 2011 to March 2011 to assess the factors contributing to prostate cancer in the province of Baghdad The study was conducted in a hospital surgery specialist Teaching Hospital, Radiation and Nuclear Medicine in Baghdad and the research sample included 40 patients with prostate cancer Where data was collected after it has been building of questionnaire by the researcher related to the purposes of the study and is composed of (5) parts, the first part included user demographics and contains (5) items and basic components of the study is located (4) main parts and falls below it (27) sub-paragraph has been determine the credibility of the content of the form through (9) of experts with competence and stability by calculating the correlation coefficient (Pearson), which was the value of acceptable statistically (r: 0.88) and data was collected in a direct interview, then the data were analyzed through the application of descriptive analysis (frequency, percentage) as well as deductive analysis of the data (arithmetic mean and weighted Pearson correlation coefficient) using statistical bag of Social Sciences (SPSS) V. 16.

Results: The study showed that the majority of people with age is more than 60 years and they know how to read and write, most of whom are married and monthly income is barely enough.

Recommendations: The study recommended the need for periodic examination of patients with prostate cancer and the establishment of specialty centers for cancer of the prostate in Iraq
