Measuring the synthetic characteristics of sustainable urban space affecting community behaviour - Basra City's basic design as a case of study

Urban space studies have become more precise following the emergence of spatial structure theory and its various applications, which provided precise numerical and mathematical measurements of the characteristics of urban spaces in general. The study of urban space structure requires two basic requirements: identifying the elements of space and studying the relationship between its components. When conducting a quantitative analysis of urban structure, a map of the axial lines of the selected study area must be created and constructed to identify the integrated and isolated spaces within the region.
The research problem emerged in two directions: the first was to find the relationship between sustainable urban space and community behavior, on the one hand, and to find the appropriate mechanism for measuring and interpreting the levels of influencing factors such as the overall integration of space, local connectivity, control, and intensity. This was achieved by relying on the propositions of spatial structure theory and the depth mapping program to describe, measure, and interpret the relationship within the research methodology. The research reached a set of results that contribute, to varying degrees, to improving community behavior by aligning it with community requirements.
