Social integration of the displaced from Mosul - a field study in the city of Najaf

Abstract

This study examines displacement processes and their social, cultural, and economic repercussions, both on the host community, the city of Najaf, and on the displaced population who arrived in Najaf as a result of the terrorist organization ISIS's control of their cities and villages within the borders of Mosul and its outskirts. The study aims to examine the social integration processes of displaced populations, as one of the most important topics on the national and international scene, in light of its impact on the variable of "social integration." The importance of the study lies in highlighting the importance of social integration in preserving the cohesion of displaced families and protecting their social fabric from disintegration and loss, while maintaining the continuity and unity of society. A prominent characteristic among the residents of the host cities was their mutual support, solidarity, and mutual assistance to mitigate the repercussions of the crisis (displacement) on the family and society. The study objectives discussed the nature of relationships and social integration of displaced families in the city of Najaf, focusing on the role of institutions that provided support and solidarity with them, and revealing the causes and repercussions of displacement.
