Abstract

Urban greening is the creation, protection or maintenance of green infrastructure, including trees and plants in and around urban areas, the benefits of which are reflected in people, the economy, the environment, soil and water. This concept has gone through different stages over time, but these stages were not clearly defined. This research is trying to find out Characteristics of urban greening by referring to the history of the emergence of the concept

The research problem was represented by “the lack of clarity in the historical sequence of the concept of greening and its role in knowing the characteristics of the concept.” To solve the research problem, the research adopted a hypothesis that states, “Knowing the historical development helps to know the characteristics of urban greening that enhance sustainability,” and to achieve the research goal of “clarifying the historical sequence of the emergence “The concept and benefiting from previous experiences in supporting sustainability.” The approach was determined, which consists of several stages. First: building a comprehensive conceptual framework for the historical development of the concept of urban greening, and secondly, extracting the vocabulary contained throughout history that helps in knowing the characteristics of urban greening, and then the research concludes in conclusion with: A set of conclusions and recommendations.
