Abstract

Effective environmental protection cannot be achieved without a proper understanding of the current and future risks of environmental damage and the resulting humanitarian crises and political instability. Following the Stockholm Conference in 1972, the danger of environmental threats became evident through the increasing and worsening of international environmental conflicts. This type of conflict is relatively recent and complex at the same time, attributed to the distinctiveness of environmental damage, which adversely affects sustainable development.

Given this situation, it has become imperative to prevent environmental conflicts before they arise, as prevention is better than settling disputes after they occur. This study aims to develop risk assessment by avoiding international environmental conflicts. Most studies and international environmental agreements emphasize the necessity of working to prevent international environmental conflicts rather than focusing on resolving them after they occur, which leads to tensions in international relations.
