Making Iraqi foreign policy

The process of formulating foreign policy in Iraq and the role of official and unofficial institutions in this context are addressed in the research. The analysis focuses on the factors and challenges influencing foreign policy-making in Iraq, shedding light on both internal and external impacts on this process. It highlights the role of the Prime Minister in determining foreign policy in collaboration with the Cabinet and under parliamentary supervision. The research also explores the extent of the impact of democratic processes and non-official institutions on the development of Iraq's foreign policy, as well as the role of political institutions in this context. Emphasis is placed on the importance of deep analysis and evaluation of the international situation and the interaction between internal and external factors in shaping Iraq's foreign police.
Foreign policy is portrayed as the translation of a nation's policy to achieve its national objectives and orientations in the external environment, considering other active entities on the international stage and the means and methods employed by states to achieve those objectives. Internal and external considerations and factors influencing the making and adoption of Iraqi foreign policy are discussed. The influence of idealistic theory on Iraqi foreign policy is deemed limited due to the turbulent security reality, despite positive aspects of idealistic theory. Realistic theory is applied due to Iraq's vast natural resources, making national, security, and economic interests crucial in shaping its foreign police.
