The effect of repetition in the dialogue of the play "Al-Hussein Tha'ara" by Abdul Rahman Al- Sharqawi, a stud in light of text linguistics

Abstract

Repetition is one of the manifestations of the lexical consistency of the text ,it performs a number of functions that achieve the cohesion and coherence of the text. The research studies the author's employment of the mechanism of repetition in the theatrical dialogue of the text "Al-Hussein tha'ara" and its effect in achieving the coherence of the text and communicating its purposes to the recipient. The research is based on dividing the repetition contained in the play according to the linguistics of the text, into : pure(complete)repetition and partial repetition, and repetition and partial repetition, and repetition at the syntactic level, which includes : sentence and semi-sentence repetition and parallelism, and repetition at the semantic level, which includes : synonymy and semi-synonymy, the comprehensive noun, and general words. The atrical dialogue-which the research studies- is divided in to two types: the first is external dialogue,which in turn is divided into direct dialogue and internal dialogue,which takes place between the character and himself or between individuals or a group representing the other side of thAe dialogue, in addition to studying the effect of repetition on events and characters.(Major and Secondary) of the play.
