يعد النقل أحد الأسباب المهمة لازدهار السياحة في أي بلد ، وبواسطة الطرق ووسائل النقل بأنواعها كافة يتم توفير متطلبات أنشطة السياحة والترويج في المكان المقصود ، وكذلك يتم ربط الموقع السياحي بأسواق الطلب الدولية ، بما يعني أن النقل يمثل القاعدة الرئيسية للسياحة ورواجها ، ويعبر أيضاً عن درجة التمدن والحضارة ومؤشر على مدى التطور الاقتصادي للبلد. إن ازدهار صناعة السياحة والترفيه في أقاليم ودول العالم المختلفة يرتبط بتقدم طرق ووسائل النقل ، ولا يمكن للمواقع السياحية أن تكون أكثر جذباً للسياح طالما لا تتوفر لها إمكانية الوصول بغض النظر عما تقدمه من تسهيلات وخدمات ، وتؤثر وسائل النقل السريعة والمريحة على السياحة والترفيه فالمسافة والزمن مرتبطان ، وتقدم وسائل النقل حالياً جعلت العالم أشبه بقرية صغيرة ، ويهم السائح الوقت الذي يلزمه للوصول إلى الجهة السياحية التي يرغب الذهاب إليها، ويذهب بعض خبراء السياحة إلى أن إمكانية الوصول للموقع السياحي تلعب دوراً مهماً لا يكاد يختلف عن الخصائص السياحية للموقع نفسه.
