Analyzing the Epistemological Foundations of Religious Pluralism

Abstract

This research presents a structural analysis of the cognitive framework underlying the theory of religious pluralism proposed by the philosopher of religion, John Hick. This theory holds a significant position within the philosophical and religious intellectual discourse. The study attempts to analyze the fundamental pillars on which this theory is built. It concludes that the theory rests on two crucial cornerstones. The first is the provision of a new perspective and concept of absolute truth and religions. The second cornerstone lies in its establishment from within religions, achieved through a fresh interpretation of religious texts, understanding them in the light of accepting multiplicity and the various paths leading to the divine  .                                                                                        The research further examines Abdul Karim Soroush's theory of "Straight Paths" and its attempt to adopt and integrate Hick's theory into Islamic thought. It is important to note that the research focuses on the analytical aspect of the theory and aims to comprehend the foundations upon which it stands, presenting it objectively. Nonetheless, this does not imply an endorsement of the theory or its ensuing implications, as it necessitates further independent research
