Abstract

Linguistic studies have come a long way, especially in recent decades, and this development has included all cognitive trends and the scientific and literary effects that the human mind has produced.

The study of the meaning of the word had its dimensions and results. Knowing the meaning gives the word its role in sentence construction and the structure of the text that contains it, and the semantic studies that have reached us have contributed to laying the foundational building blocks in the development of Arabic dictionaries, especially meaning dictionaries such as (Al-Mukhuss) by Ibn Sayyida (458 AH), which It is based on placing similar words under one heading that represents the head of that lexical (semantic) field, which represents ((a group of words whose connotations are related, placed with a substance under a general word that brings them together. An example of this is the word colors in the Arabic language, as it falls under the general term (color). It includes words such as red, blue, yellow, white, etc…, and the Arabs cannot be underestimated, and the great effects they presented contributed to putting the study of dictionaries on the right path, and we have in meaning dictionaries a good example in clarifying the lexical (semantic) field
