Abstract

Historic city centers (the old city) are the heart of cities as they represent different periods of time that the city has gone through, so they constitute the identity of the city, which has raised many researchers and planning specialists to pay attention to the issue of preserving and perpetuating them for future generations by finding mechanisms for applying international and local conventions for preserving The identity of the city and its urban heritage. Our ancient Iraqi cities, especially the cities of holy shrines, including the ancient city of Najaf, abound with many archaeological and heritage buildings and Islamic architecture that carries with it values ​​of great importance to the nation's heritage.
