Abstract

This paper deals with the nature of evil in Jean Genet’s play The Maids. The play has raised much controversy among French cultural societies during that time. Evil is a universal truth that cannot be ignored especially when it tackles man’s past, childhood and environment. In fact, this is what the paper tries to prove. Evil which a major theme in the play leads tow maids to get rid of their own lady, then they find themselves struggling in an endless vicious cycle devoid from humanity. Therefore, hatred brings their fatal death which resembles a poisoned drink and a black end. Keywords: Maid –lady-evil- representation-hatred- existence-obsession- crime
