Since the fourteenth century, Portugal has tried to open diplomatic relations with China.. In the year 1522, Afonso Mawtanzi Mello arrived on a ship to enter the southern shores of China, but his attempt failed as his ship was attacked and he had to return to his country.. Thirty years later, in the year 1552, Portugal returned Its attempts to send a mission to enter the shores of southern China, but it also failed and the mission returned (2).
