Abstract

Islam as a cultural system in the thinking of its adherents in Islamic societies did not remain on one fixed image throughout history, but rather went through changes. These changes affected the nature of directing the view of the converts of Islam to life and their perception of the characteristics and orientations of the ideal Muslim.
These changes arose as a result of historical events and important facts that took place in the Islamic society. Among the changes that led to the spread of the phenomenon of asceticism at a certain stage and the emergence of suicide attacks in another stage, despite the prohibition of killing oneself in Islam in its traditional form.
It goes without saying that religion affects behavior. Islam could be the most effective of all religions in reducing the number of suicides among its followers. But when politics interfere and mix with faith, some unexpected results will occur.
