This research aims to stand on the uses of (but) and its grammatical functions as portrayed by scholars, with a focus on the following: First: Knowing the position of grammarians on the truth and type of this word, is it simple or compound? Second: Knowing the specificity of this tool among the Arabs, and the implications it contains. Third: Knowing whether the waw included in it is from the body of the word or not.
