يعد التضاد أحد سمات اللغة العربية وفنونها، فهو يزيد من جمالية النص الأدبي عن طريق العلاقات بين الألفاظ والمعاني والكلمات ، يركز هذا البحث على التضاد وجماليته في تعدد الدلالات في شعر عمر بن ابي ربيعة ، فالتضاد يقوم على علاقة كل مفردة مع بعضها أو مع كل صيغة بيانية مما يخلق الفجوة الشعرية التي تغذي النص الأدبي ، لقد اعتمدت في هذه الدراسة على المنهج التحليلي ، وتضمن البحث اربعة محاور يتمثل المحور الأول بتعريف التضاد في اللغة والاصطلاح ونبذة مختصرة عن الشاعر ، أما المحور الثاني التضاد اللفظي ، والمحور الثالث التضاد على مستوى الصورة التشبيهية ، بينما يتطرق المحور الرابع الى التضاد على مستوى الصورة الاستعارية
