The Influential Factors in the Making of Security News in Iraqi Journalism (An Analytical Study of Al-Sabah Newspaper)

This research sought to understand the security news industry in Iraqi newspapers by analyzing the core components of constructing the security communication message reflected in the newspaper's editorial policy. This was achieved by examining the security topics the newspapers focused on covering, the news values they aimed to highlight, the sources conveying information, and the elements of prominence. The research adopted the survey methodology as it belongs to descriptive research, utilizing the content analysis method. The total number of materials analyzed was 175 press items from January 1st to December 31st, 2024, using a cyclical week sampling method that included 46 issues. The most prominent findings of the research were the Al-Sabah newspaper's primary focus on armed operations, its emphasis on Arab security events more than local security events, and the high percentage of anonymous sources relied upon by the newspaper in covering foreign security events.
