This research aims to study the role of international trade in enhancing economic growth in Iraq by analyzing the impact of trade openness on macroeconomic indicators such as GDP, employment rates, and foreign direct investment. The study relies on a descriptive approach alongside quantitative analysis, using economic data for Iraq covering a specific period (e.g., 2003–2023), with a focus on both oil and non-oil exports. The results indicate that increased trade openness has contributed to achieving relative economic growth; however, the heavy dependence on oil exports remains one of the main challenges hindering economic diversification and sustainable growth. The research recommends the necessity of diversifying the export base and adopting effective trade policies that keep pace with global changes and support local productive sectors.
