Religion and national identity in Iraq, a re-reading of their dialectic in the light of the religious authority's speeches and orientations

Abstract

The fatwa issued by His Eminence the Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali al-Sistani was a historic moment in the march of the reference and its role in leading the Iraqi people, and a station of jihad stations that characterized the doctrine of Ahl al-Bayt in defending religion and the homeland and protecting the oppressed and the vulnerable, ata stage in which the belief prevailed that criminal terrorist organizations supported by evil forces regionally and internationally have extended their control over the land of Iraq and there is little left until they declare their monstrous entity (the alleged Islamic State) The fatwa was a severe blow that hit these gangs in the heart and revealed the depth of the religious spirit of Iraqi society and the depth of influence enjoyed by the authority in the conscience of the people, even non-Shiites, and this fatwa was able to stop the hands of the time of ISIS and restore to Iraq  its dignity and freedom. The reference had a variety of arms and  multiple and stood courageously to implement this fatwa, and from these arms the Popular Mobilization, which was formed to respond to the barbaric invasion of Iraq, which proved a rare courage that stunned the world and broke a thorn In this research paper, we try to address the deep dialectical relationship between the fatwa and the resurgence of the Iraqi national spirit, which shone again thanks to the reference position, reminding the world of the twentieth revolution, which was also launched thanks to the reference role and the magnanimity of following Ahl al-Bayt with a mixture of religious and national awareness, trying in this context to explore the dialectic between religion and national identity.
