Abstract

The study aims to reveal the suitability of groundwater and take samples of this water by the General Authority for Groundwater, Najaf Branch, and analyze them in the laboratory. The study revealed, according to the results of the chemical analysis, that groundwater in the study area suffers from the risk of pollution, and its chemical and physical properties varied from one site to another depending on a set of factors represented in the nature of the rock formation of the water reservoirs and the topographical situation, in addition to the climatic conditions that characterized the study area, represented by high temperatures and evaporation values, in addition to the rise of salts to the surface due to the capillary property and what it causes of dryness, and thus the disintegration of this soil and making it ready for erosion processes and making it arid areas suffering from desertification, and the resulting shrinkage of cultivated areas and low productivity. Especially the areas in the Western Plateau region, which depend entirely on groundwater for irrigation.
