Comparison of the concept of the state between Iranian and Iraqi political thought

There are many theories about governance and state among Shiite jurists in both Iran and Iraq, perhaps the most important of which is the “Theory of the Guardianship of the Jurist” developed by Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in the 1970s, which gives the supreme religious authority absolute authority over all aspects of life, as he combines religious and worldly affairs in his hand. Although the system of the Guardianship of the Jurist has been successfully implemented in Iran, few believe that the system of the Guardianship of the Jurist is a suitable system for Shiites in Iraq. The majority of religious authorities in Najaf do not believe in the Guardianship of the Jurist as proposed in Iran, while emphasizing the necessity of separating religion from the state and the non-interference of the cleric in the daily lives of citizens as well as in the affairs of government and administration.
