Existential regret of university students

Abstract

The research aims to identify:

1. Existential heartbreak among university students.
2. The statistical significance of the differences in existential heartbreak among university students according to the variables (gender, male-female, and specialization, scientific-human). The researcher used the descriptive approach in the style of correlational relations, and the research sample consisted of (500) male and female students from the University of Kufa, who were selected in a stratified random way from the faculties of the University of Kufa.

In order to achieve the objectives of the research, the researcher built a measure of existential grief based on the definition of (Frankle, 1969), and determined the areas of the scale according to the adopted definition. For the measure of existential heartbreak, and it was extracted for the scale of virtual validity and constructive validity. As for stability, it was extracted by the method of test and re-test and using Cronbach's alpha method.

To process the data, the researcher used statistical methods by means of the Statistical Bag for Social Sciences (SPSS) version (V.25), and according to the order of their use in the research.

The search results were the following:

1. The members of the current research sample are generally characterized by existential anguish.
2. There are statistically significant differences in the variable of specialization in favor of human specialization, and the variable of sex in favor of females.
