Historical news and methods of attribution in the book of quotation from the Noble Qur'an by Al-Thaalbi

Abstract

In this research, we conclude that Al-Th’aliby, in his quotations of the historical reports, was lenient in the issue of the chain of transmission at times and strict at other times, and that most of his chains of transmission were from the insides of books, as they are written chains of papers for the most part, so he used to neglect mentioning the members of the chain. He dealt with his historical quotations as if they were a literary quotation, as he was lenient in the issue of transmission by text and was not strict in the issue of transmission in meaning, despite the prevalence of textual transmission in most of his historical quotations. He insists that his transmissions were in the words of others, and we did not see with Al-Th’alibyin his historical reports a unified approach in their support, and we also did not see a method for him in presenting the quotations over some of them according to their importance or their precedence, except for what was in the holy Qur’anic text, as he always gave it precedence over others. We can say that: Historical reports constituted an important part in Al-Iqhtibas book, because the focus of quotations in the book is the Holy Qur’an, which is undoubtedly a religious book, so it is difficult for the researcher to sort historical news from religious news.
