Abstract

The Welsh leader Llywelyn ap Iorwerth was able to ascend to power in the Principality of Gwynedd in North Wales in 1294 and gave it leadership over all other Welsh regions, making it a starting point for achieving his goals. He worked hard to build a strong internal front represented by the unification of all of Wales despite the great difficulties he faced as a result of the disputes and conflicts between the Welsh princes, and imposed his personality and position on his competitors from within Wales. We can say that he succeeded in the greatest challenge for him and all of Wales, which is liberation to the extent possible from English domination at many times, although he was a contemporary of three English kings, each of whom differed from the other in his personality and view of the situation in Wales, namely King Richard I (1189-1199), King John (1199-1216), and King Henry III (1216-1272). He was waiting for the right opportunities and circumstances to launch his attacks on the border areas with England, in addition to his control over the properties belonging to it in Wales, which put the English in many cases. In a difficult position and gave Wales an important place.
