Abstract

This research examines the change in residential land use in Najaf city during 2022, specifically the replacement of residential land with health and educational uses. The study relies on a field survey conducted by the researcher, which identified all private health and educational institutions located on land previously used for residential purposes. The collected data was then converted into graphical representations illustrating the extent of the change on city maps, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software. The research yielded several key findings, most notably that the population of the neighborhoods and residential areas in the city center reached 62,982, while the total residential area of these neighborhoods and areas amounted to 391.74 hectares. The change in land use from residential to health and educational purposes was observed in six neighborhoods and residential areas.
