The importance of the residential function is evident from the proportion it occupies in relation to the built-up area and the total area of the city - which often exceeds 40% of the city's area, and this is not a small area. This requires assessment and analysis of residential land uses, enabling sustainable planning and identifying the gap between reality and the sustainable housing standard . Which represents the hypothesis for the problem of whether there is a compatibility between residential use and the sustainable standard . The aim of this research is to analyze how the planner can control residential use by narrowing the gap between actual residential use and the sustainable standard. The research depends on the descriptive approach to study and analyze the neighborhoods of Kufa city by comparing the reality of the situation with regard to the area of the city’s neighborhoods and knowing the extent of the impact of population growth on this use in these neighborhoods and predicting it for the year 2027 to provide the need for serviced spaces for residential areas in Kufa city . One of the most important results is that the rapid population growth and the division of families into more than one family necessarily requires the provision of standard spaces for sustainable housing.
