Criticism of the concept of democracy in the thought of Sayyed Muhammad Baqir al-Sadr

Democracy is known as the rule of the people, and it is a political system in which sovereignty is for all citizens, not an individual or a class. It is based on three foundations: freedom, equality, and justice, which are characterized as complementary and solidary. Democracy, which is a Western term associated with the historical development of European society, is almost inseparable from the philosophy of European thought.
Mr. Al-Sadr has proven, through his political theory, his opposition to capitalism and Marxist socialism because they do not represent true politics in the democratic system. The capitalist system has been characterized as full of problems and corruptions, and the Marxist socialist system adopted by Marx and the communists is a system that works to confiscate wealth for the benefit of the state as the legitimate agent of the people. In the view of Mr. Al-Sadr, these policies are failed policies. It was necessary to develop an Islamic alternative, and to reject Western trends as a whole. The current representative of democracy in most countries is dictatorial and arbitrary governments, and they are not compatible with the requirements of Islam.
