Abstract

Abstract:

The study of water resources, especially surface ones, is one of the important geographical studies, as it clarifies the amount of running water in rivers and how to set determinants for it that contribute to controlling and organizing it according to the water requirements of each area in which the water runs according to the slope of the surface, as the analysis of the hydrological reality and its change during a certain period highlights  Light on the mechanism of dealing with it according to the needs of any area of   its water consumption.

The importance of our study of the topic in terms of the challenges facing the study area is due to the lack of water shares that vary according to the years due to multiple reasons in a way that affected the nature of the population's water needs, especially agricultural ones, which led us to analyze the irrigation situation and link it to the hydrological change of surface water coming to the governorate.  Dhi Qar, as the researcher discussed in his study the importance of this water, its geographical distribution and the quantities received for the period (1990-2019) and its relationship to the adequacy of drainage rates for agricultural areas on both sides of the Euphrates River and Shatt Al-Gharraf.  Lack of interest, especially in the last ten years, in addition to the lack of awareness of the farmer of the importance of this resource, which led to the loss of large quantities of water using these old and useless methods, which makes the concerned authorities in front of a major problem, namely the lack of water specified for each use in the manner that  It requires setting up adequate plans to invest water in accordance with the requirements of the population and providing quantities commensurate with the needs of agricultural crops and whose areas are specified in the study area.
