the introduction :
The study of the urban growth of cities reveals its urban geographical features, as it shows the pattern of the urban fabric, the amount and density of urban additions to the stages of growth, and the extent of the influence of geographical controls that support urban growth and affect its movement, direction and continuity in the city, which contributes to drawing an urban map for the future urban growth of the study area. Based on the morphological stages it took to reach its current state. Urban growth generally takes two basic dimensions, the first represents horizontal urban growth, and the second dimension represents vertical urban growth, according to geographical and non-geographical factors, of which no city is free (1). The urban structure of the city is considered a system of relations between people and urban elements, and the relations in the physical environment are mainly spatial (mechanical), and for this reason, people and the components of the urban body are in a permanent state of interdependence (2). There are many reasons that contributed to the emergence and emergence of cities, some of which arose as a result of commercial exchanges and others as a result of the search for security, including due to the emergence of the elements of industry and the availability of job opportunities, including historical, religious or political, and with the passage of time these causes and after their development became major functions It is practiced by the city to the extent that many cities are known and famous for its function, so the function is the justification for the existence of the city and a determinant of the lifestyle in it and the basis for its establishment and formation (3).
