Robin George Collingwood and his method of historical research (1889 – 1943

Abstract

The study sought to know the life of the English historian Collingwood and his method of historical research, as he loved reading historical books and learning Latin and Greek. He worked on developing his mental perceptions after studying at Oxford University, and he  found the importance of the methodology of historical research. He reviewed the historical studies of many thinkers and philosophers, and found new methodological mechanisms in historical research. He concluded that civilization has three pillars: the economic, social, and judicial aspects, and their existence is important for the continuity of building civilization. He also emphasized the reasoning or causality in building the historical event, and stated that the mind is the engine of historical events; because they occurred from the ideas resulting from man.
