Abstract

The Holy Quran has occupied a major importance in Arab and Western circles, and this interest has taken many forms. All of these forms must go through the process of understanding and getting to know it. This understanding has been exposed to various ideologies and motives, which has led it to take on a projective character resulting from the accumulation of intellectual ideas in the unconscious. Psychological projection, in a different way, helps to reduce the state of tension that afflicts the ego as a result of the impulses of amusement and its dominance. In order for the ego to get rid of the guilt that haunts it, it tries to use projection as a defense mechanism. Projection is the attribution of undesirable qualities to situations that cause anxiety and fear for the ego. In this context, we have limited ourselves to showing the projective images among the Orientalists, since their understanding of the Quran is influenced by negative preconceptions about Islam and by ideas that have become in the unconscious as givens, which produced projections in understanding. In many forms, we have limited ourselves to some of them to avoid being lengthy. These images were embodied in the understanding of Quranic texts among examples of Orientalists.
