The reality of the prospects for developing the tourism sector in Iraq according to the sustainable development goals

Abstract

Tourism is one of the economic activities and one of the most important modern industries that can be one of the pillars of the economy if it is well developed and employed, which qualified it to achieve the goals of sustainable development. The obstacles facing tourism in Iraq must be overcome through a national strategy for tourism development, and the interest in the tourism sector and the establishment of And the development of environmentally friendly tourist sites and the preservation of natural resources through which we can achieve sustainable development. Economy. Our interest in this topic came as a result of Iraq's enjoying material and natural capabilities represented in geographical, economic, environmental, human and archaeological resources that qualify it to be a first-class tourist country. This research seeks to study the reality of the tourism sector in Iraq by researching the tourism potentials in Iraq and ways to invest them optimally and employ them, through the establishment of tourism, service and entertainment projects that contribute to the revitalization of the tourism movement; As well as achieving an economic return through tourism development projects.

   The research includes three axes, the first axis consists of the theoretical framework for sustainable tourism development, while the second axis dealt with the reality of the tourism sector in Iraq, and the third axis discussed the obstacles facing the tourism sector in Iraq and ways to address them and achieve sustainable tourism development. Some recommendations for the establishment of a sustainable and developed tourism industry are a forward-looking vision for the tourism sector in Iraq.
