Abstract

This study aims to monitor and analyze snow cover in Jumma District during the period 2000–2025 using remote sensing (RS) data, specifically the MODIS/Terra Snow Cover (MOD10A2, Version 061) satellite product, focusing on the Maximum_Snow_Extent band. The data were processed within the Google Earth Engine (GEE) platform, where the satellite images were preprocessed and annual mean snow cover was calculated for each year to create a comprehensive temporal database.

The study employed spatiotemporal analysis of snow cover by generating annual maps showing snow distribution throughout the study period. Subsequently, a linear regression model was applied to predict future snow cover for the year 2030, using the regression slope and intercept to estimate the expected snow extent. The results were visualized as digital maps illustrating the predicted spatial distribution of snow and its future variations. The findings indicate that snow cover in Jumma District exhibits clear spatiotemporal variability during the study period, with certain areas showing higher snow accumulation. The predictive model enabled the estimation of snow accumulation patterns for 2030 with acceptable cartographic accuracy.
