Ethics and its role in human development

Abstract

 This research aims to study ethics as the cornerstone of human development and societal formation, by analyzing its philosophical and religious roots and highlighting its practical impact on regulating individual behavior and organizing social relations. The research is based on the premise that ethics is not merely a set of theoretical values, but rather an integrated system linking reason, innate nature, and divine law, translated into practical actions that contribute to achieving a balance between individual interests and the common good, and embodying the objectives of religion in reality. The research is divided into two main sections. The first addresses the concept of practical reason and its relationship to ethics, considering it an internal scale for value judgment and the control of the will. The second section presents the impact of ethics on the development of the individual and society through eight key benefits, including controlling instincts, organizing the social order, regulating individual life, refining human fields such as medicine, commerce, industry, and agriculture, refining culture and art, refining science, and realizing the objectives of religion. The research adopts an analytical approach, studying ethical concepts in light of Islamic thought and linking them to human and social reality.
