Abdul Arabi’s poem was not a means of entertainment or a superficial means of understanding, but rather an emotional weapon sharper than swords and more far-reaching in its effect. If the sword has a temporary effect that passes with the passing of a moment, then the poem has an effect that does not pass, especially if its words are carried by travelers. Resorting to the sword was the last thing on this Arab’s mind, and it was difficult for him even though he was capable of it, because it was an option that would bring him the mark of (ignorance), while the tongue was the means of the human progress that he sought and longed for. However, the environment in which he lived had its rules; it attracted him to what was imposed on him of ignorance, fanaticism and conflict, but he quickly returned to his humanity and the eloquence that he was born with. Resorting to the sword was an extremely complex matter, scattered on its margins with feelings of regret, blame and retreat. From here you find that war had a great effect in lengthening speech and the emergence of poetry - as the ancients saw it - to contain these concerns and justify this ignorance after the Arab’s life was easy, represented by simple verses that a man would present before his need - according to the expression of Al-Jahiz.
