The role of ethical supply chain practices in ensuring sustainable consumption

Abstract

The modern global economy has made great strides in the production and distribution of goods, making a wide range of products readily available to consumers around the world. However, this rapid growth has also led to alarming environmental and social impacts, as the supply chains that support this system often lack transparency and accountability. Given the importance of the above, this research attempts to gain a better understanding of the role that a set of ethical supply chain practices can play in ensuring sustainable consumption in the service sector, specifically in the large shopping malls of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. To achieve this goal, a quantitative method was chosen to collect data by designing a structured questionnaire that has already been tested and subsequently sent to executive cadres via the Internet. (51) valid responses were received for statistical analysis by filling out the questionnaire. The results of the research revealed that ethical supply chain practices play a crucial role in ensuring sustainable consumption. Based on the findings, the researchers recommended that in order for the management of the studied malls to succeed in ensuring the achievement of sustainable consumption, serious attention should be paid to ethical supply chain practices and prioritized as a very vital cost center to develop and improve the ability to adapt and change in the face of sustainable challenges that any service system may face.
