The impact of the Big Five personality traits on job procrastination – an analytical study at the Technical Institute in Najaf

Abstract

The current research aims to uncover the relationship between the independent variable (personality traits) and the dependent variable (job procrastination), by understanding the conceptual framework of these variables and determining their prevalence at the Najaf Technical Institute. The research problem was represented by the need to understand the extent to which the prevalence of personality traits (openness to experience, conscientiousness, extroversion, agreeableness, neuroticism) affects job procrastination and the extent to which individuals postpone assigned tasks. Although previous research has addressed this topic, most of it focused on Western work environments or neglected to study the integrated impact of all dimensions of personality traits on job procrastination, creating a research gap that this research seeks to fill. The descriptive analytical approach was used as the primary research methodology by describing the intellectual content of the research variables. A questionnaire was used as the primary tool for data collection. A sample of (92) individuals was selected from the technical institute's research sample. Data was collected through an electronic questionnaire. Both Excel and SPSS22 were used for statistical analysis. The results indicated acceptance of the first main hypothesis, which states that there is a statistically significant effect of personality traits on the aggregate level of job procrastination. The results also showed acceptance of the second main hypothesis at the level of personality trait dimensions, as the effect of the dimensions (openness to experience, conscientiousness, extroversion) These sub-hypotheses were rejected, while the dimensions (acceptance and neuroticism) had a positive effect on job procrastination, and these hypotheses were accepted.
