The Status and Effects of Resurrection

A Comparative Study between the Holy Qur'an and the Old and New Testaments

Abstract

This research presents a comparative study of the concept of resurrection and its effects. The first section begins by demonstrating the strength of the Quranic evidence based on the initial creation and the revival of the earth, highlighting, in contrast, the descriptive weakness and semantic ambiguity that characterize the texts of the Old and New Testaments, which oscillate between symbolism and fragmentary interpretation. The research concludes that the Quran's significance lies in the definitive nature of its evidence and the comprehensiveness of its discourse, while the Old and New Testaments lack this universal clarity. The second section of the research analyzes the effects, concluding that the concept of resurrection in the Quran has produced profound educational and behavioral consequences, manifested in self-discipline and accountability for one's actions. While the focus in both the Old and New Testaments was on the spiritual and hopeful aspects as a means of comforting the oppressed and granting them psychological patience, without activating the legislative and legal dimensions with the same force as the Quran, the difference between the concept of the resurrected physical body in the Quran and the spiritual body in the New Testament led to a fundamental difference in understanding the purpose of reward and punishment. This made the Quranic vision more coherent in linking the unseen to behavioral reality. The research concluded by emphasizing that the Quran's dominance over previous scriptures is manifested in its ability to transform the unseen into a constructive force for morality and society.
