This research examines the role of reason in Imami thought as one of the most important cognitive tools employed by Muslim scholars in constructing and defending Islamic doctrine. It focuses on the example of the Imami scholar Sayyid Abdullah Shubbar, a distinguished figure in utilizing reason within an intellectual environment marked by diverse interactions between theological, philosophical, mystical, and jurisprudential methodologies. The research aims to demonstrate the centrality of reason in Imami thought, where it is not considered a substitute for transmitted knowledge, but rather a tool for understanding and interpreting it, and a means of establishing doctrines based on rational proof, while maintaining a balance between the demands of reason and the revealed text. The research also explores the evolution of the concept of reason in Islamic tradition, highlighting the varying definitions offered by theologians, hadith scholars, philosophers, and Sufis, and emphasizing its functions in acquiring knowledge and establishing certainty.
