Abstract

Clans are considered one of the most important social organizations that make up Iraqi society, and they extend from north to south, and some of their youth have arms and are ready to sacrifice if their clans demand it, and they have customs. Customs and traditions are different from the state, and these clans have also been the subject of continuous disputes since the Ottoman occupation of Iraq. The Ottomans also took advantage of these clans and began to incite them to fight the British occupation of Iraq. The position of the clans was against the British presence, and continuous clashes occurred when the British army entered Basra, and the dispute deepened after Britain declared the mandate over Iraq, and the position of the opposition and clerics in Iraq such as Muhammad Saeed Al-Haboubi, Al-Khalisi and Al-Hiri exploited the clans and gave them the fatwa that allows them to oppose the British and stand in He directed them against the plans that Britain was implementing in Iraq until the Iraqi revolution. The twenties have arrived, which was the most important role for the clans in Iraq.
