Imam Ali (PBUH) is an unparalleled figure in his time and in subsequent ages, the imam of the eloquent and the preachers. His personality and works have received an abundance of studies and research, but despite all these efforts, Nahj al-Balaghah has not received the attention and study it deserves. This article deals with an analytical study of the sermon: “The Right of the Ruler and the Right of the Subject,” to show people’s rights and social justice in Islam. From which the rulers of Islamic societies turned away, and did not play its real role represented in the application and implementation of this path that was drawn by the Qur’an and Nahj al-Balaghah. Through this research, the researcher reached results: the imam gave this sermon, which indicates the beginning of Islam, to show his right to the caliphate and thus to obey the people; After Ali's people came out to obey him after the Battle of Siffin
