The opposite paradox in the poetry of Yahya Al-Samawi

Abstract

 The concept of paradox refers to the rhetorical style in which the hidden meaning is in sharp contrast to the apparent meaning. Paradox, especially the paradox of a situation or context, often requires toil of mind and deep reflection to reach the contradiction, and to reveal the connotations of the conflict between the apparent meaning and the hidden meaning that sinks into the depths and distant spaces of the text. Irony also has an important function in literature in general and poetry in particular, as it goes beyond discernment and attention, to create semantic tension in the poem through contrast in things, which may come not only through exciting and shocking words in context, but by creating ingenious possibilities in employing ordinary and everyday vocabulary within poetic discourse. In the verbal paradox, the apparent and inner meanings are in direct confrontation, unlike the contextual paradox and the event, which requires invisibility and depth in the search for both sides of the paradox within the structure of the poem, and may need to deduce and analyze the entire poem or link it to a context external to the poem itself, and this is the most paradoxical type.
