The dictionary is of great importance in preserving the nation's heritage; it is the repository of the Arabs' knowledge and the resource researchers turn to for interpreting vocabulary. Al-Khalil ibn Ahmad al-Farahidi's *Al-'Ayn* is considered one of the most important Arabic dictionaries that contributed to the development of the Arabic lexicon, and many lexicographers were influenced by it. Al-Khalil relied on phonetic arrangement and a system of word structures and permutations. As for Al-Sahib ibn Abbad's *Al-Muhit*, it followed Al-Khalil's method regarding the sequence of letters, divided according to their points of articulation, or the arrangement of sections within each letter. It is one of the most prominent linguistic dictionaries that appeared in the fourth century AH، and it aimed for brevity in explaining words while still including a large number of vocabulary entries.
The dictionary is a record of the Arabs' knowledge and is the resource researchers resort to for understanding vocabulary. Al-Ayn is the first Arabic dictionary compiled in the Arabic language. The dictionaries that preceded it are not considered true dictionaries because Al-Khalil arranged his dictionary according to a fixed system. This is evident in the book's sections، which include examples from the Holy Quran، the Prophetic Hadith, Arabic poetry and proverbs, and the sayings of early linguists. This dictionary is rich in phonetic, morphological, grammatical, and semantic information. It is distinguished by its arrangement according to the points of articulation of letters, a system that presented a challenge for researchers. As for Al-Muhit, Ibn Abbad's dictionary was influenced by Al-Ayn in terms of both arrangement and content. However, there are differences between the two approaches, including his abbreviated explanations of some words and his practice of stating the literal meanings of a word followed by its figurative meanings.
